Simple List

Within each list you can add many entries, rank them them and check them off as completed.
Can be used for grocery lists, check lists, packing list, basically whereever there is a need for a list you can use Simple List. If all you want to do is manage lists without the bells and whistles then this is the
application for you.

1. Creating a List

The first time you launch Simple List you will see the following screen:

To create your first list, enter the name of the list in the text box at the bottom of the screen. You should then select the add button or press the return key:

The Edit List Screen will then be opened:

You can add as many items to the list as you like by entering them into the text box at the bottom of the screen. As with adding lists you select the add button or press the return key to add an item to the list.

2. Quick Actions

You can select any List or List-Item by using a Long Press and a quick action bar will appear:

The options available are:
  • Edit (List Only)
  • Check/Uncheck (List-Item only)
  • Remind (List-Item only)
  • Send (List Only)
  • Delete
  • Rename
  • Move Up
  • Move Down

3. Gestures

  1. I installed Simple Lists Free and liked it well enough to purchase the version without ads. Unfortunately, the lists that I created do not appear in the paid version. How can I move or copy my data from the free to the paid version?

  2. Hi Seth,

    this is a known problem.

A possible way around this is to copy the database file. If you locate the following file: data/data/com.J5.simplelist.free/databases/notes.db and copy this file to data/data/com.J5.simplelist.pro/databases this should work.

Although it is little consolation for you, I will look into creating a migration function for future releases.

I do apologise for this inconvenience but would like to thankyou for you valuable feedback.

  3. There is now an import feature when moving from the free version to pro. You can access this by selecting the menu button from within the pro version. This feature is only available in the pro version when you have the free version installed. So do not uninstall the free version until you have migrated your data.

  4. Hi,

I just started using Simple List and loving it.
I would love it if you had a feature where you could share a specific list with other users.
    Looking forward to more updates!

Thanks for the feedback and I am pleased you are enjoying it. I do have future plans for sharing lists and cloud storage.

Thanks again for using Simple List.

  6. Would love to be able to remind/check/uncheck @ the list level. Also would love to be able to move items down.

All in all this is s rockin'ly good app I use every day. In the past, I'd be in the middle of sn errand, chore, etc. think of something I need to do and forget to write it down OR I'd have a zillion scraps of papers with reminders. Now, I've got a prioritized list I can work that goes everywhere with me. A total YAY!

  8. @prisonerprince, there is no export function at the moment, what did you have in mind, how do you intend on using this data? Let me know and I will consider adding this feature. I am interested in what sort of file format(s) would be usefull to you.

  9. First, thanks for the prompt response/

I am logginh personal biometrics (BP, Glucose level, weight, meds, etc.) and it would be convenient to attaatch list to e-mail or open and save as text with OfffficeSuite pro.

Also, I am using a Kryos tablet, do you know if print drivers exist or where one would look?

    Thanks again!

  10. I have a Kindle Fire, and love Simple list, however after having to hard reset my Fire, my lists disappeared. How can I back up my lists? I created a new list, then looked in the data folder, but found nothing there. Where are the lists kept on the Fire? I've been using the free version, but would likely buy it if I can find a way to back up the lists to my computer. I keep lists of items relating to my clients.

  11. @susan, sorry to hear that you lost your data. Unfortunately there is not feature at present to backup data apart from sending via email (version 1.3). I will look into a solution for this and let you know as soon as I have something available.

  12. Hi James,

Your app does the job for me with exception of one thing. In order for me to invoice tasks it is necessary to know when I completed them. Any chance of adding some automated tracking?

    Thanks,
    Carlton

    ReplyDelete
  13. @Susan, just added a backup and restore feature that backs up database to SD card.
@c4rlts I have just added a completion date and time that appears when you complete a task.
I am just finishing final testing of version 1.4. This should be on the google android market within the next 24 hours. I will also submit this to the Amazon app store at the same time but this can sometimes take a couple of weeks before it has been reviewed and is available.
If you follow me on twitter or facebook I will post updates as soon as they are available.
    Thanks for the feedback.

    Kind Regards

  14. I just downloaded the free version today and used it for grocery shopping. This app is going to save me sooo much time! I love it! I also love that i can make lists and email them to my husband so he can stop at the store after work.
i have a question though. I have installed this on my tablet as well as my droid phone. Is it possible to back up a list created on one device to my sd card then load it from that sd card on the other device? I just want to be able to create lists from my tablet but have them on my phone to check off.
My only suggestion would be to allow for sub categories within a list, I like to organize my shopping lists by department. Right now i can move items up and down but it would be nice to go just one step further.

    Thanks for a great app!
    Heather

  15. @Mrs.Reed The latest version of Simple List has a backup and restore function. You could potentially backup on one device (This creates a file called notes.db on the SD card in the folder called databasedata). If you copy this file onto another device in the same folder, you could then restore this.

    Kind Regards

    James

  19. I love the list program, one idea about moving items in a list up / down. If you have a long list it becomes a chore to select the item repeatedly to move it one step, it would be great if item could be just dragged up / down within the list!

  24. Hi, James,
Would really appreciate the ability to have lists within lists. Perhaps bullet points, sub-categories, each with titles. Example as given in an earlier post ftom Mrs. Reed, grocery lists: i.e. Meats; Dairy: Types of cheeses: Modes: Chunk. Grated. Shredded; Produce: Bananas. Apples: Granny Smith, HoneyCrisp. You get the idea. Thanks so much.

  25. Hi James
I have been using your Simple List Free version for quite a while and just recently noticed that after entering a new item in a list, I cannot pull up the Quick Action Bar. I can on the older items I have entered. I have purchased the Pro version hoping that would solve the problem, but it didn't! Please help! I LOVE THE APP but I am frustrated that I cannot seem to resolve this issue.

  26. @Donna,
In the last release i made a few changes. To open the quick action bar you need to do a long press as lots of people wanted the quick tap to open the list. Have you tried a long press?

  45. @Ann you an edit individual items, just select the quick action bar, you an rename an item or you can complete or incomplete and item.
@Kasey If you select the back button you this will take you to a screen showing all lists. From here you can rename your list
@Florence, you can backup data from the main lists screen. Select the menu button (three dots...) then manage data. form here you can backup and restore data. The backup will be stored in a file called 'notes.db' in the a folder called 'databasedata'. just copy this file to your laptop. When you move to a new ereader, just copy file back to same location.

  51. I just started using this app on my kindle fire and like it so far, but I think checking things off should be a bit easier. It's a little annoying to have to hold down a button and choose the option to "check" in the middle of the store. I like that feature for the other options, just not the check off option. Maybe just have check boxes next to the list items to check off or just swipe to check off.
I'd also LOVE to be able to have categories in a list. Like for my grocery list I can have different lists inside that one for meats, dairy, produce, etc. I'd be so incredibly happy with that feature.

    ReplyDelete
  52. @briezee123 you should be able to swipe on a list item to complete it. Categories is on my todo list....when I get a bit of time ;)

  53. I really like this app, considering how forgetful I can be! I currently have the free version on my Kindle Fire. The only issue I'm having is while creating a list I can see the first item as I enter it, but the second and all following items I cannot view them as I'm "typing" in the Add Item box. Just a minor annoyance more than anything else, but we all know how auto-correct can change what we intended to put in!

  61. I purchased Simple List Pro today and I believe it hits the mark concerning a simple list manager that notifies me when I am late and let's me see how well I am doing towards completing my list. I am using this on a Nexus 7 32 GB tablet. A couple of suggestions for a future release would be the following:

    1. Provide a widget version so I can keep it on my desktop in front of me.
    2. Provide views or work spaces so I can separate my Work list from my Personal list.

Excellent App! Keep up the good work.

    ReplyDelete
  62. One additional future feature I would like you to consider is the possibility of defining a repeating list. I often have tasks that I would like to repeat on the same day each week for the year. Some of these are work related and some are personal.

Having that ability would be really nice and I am sure there are others who would like to have such a feature.

  70. I shift my items around a lot as I prioritize on the move. But moving number 14 up to #3 and 5 to 12 takes a lot of repetitive work. There has to be a way to number items and drag them to their desired rank....

    ReplyDelete
  71. I love the simplicity of this app, but would really like to see a couple things to help with greater organization. To be able to add an item to a sub category, within a list would be great. Also, as an example, in my "Grocery" list, if I could keep a list of all items I might need, (which would be extensive), and be able to go through this list, select the items I need to get at that time, and then have an option to display only the selected items. Hope the suggestions help, and thanks in advance for listening.

    ReplyDelete
  95. When you first open 'Simple-List', it opens in the 'List' view (i.e. the page that should show the names of the various lists.) It you look at the bottom of the screen, the box where you would type in a new item, it reads 'Add a new list'.
Just enter the name of the list you want to make, and that adds your new list. Then in your start up screen, that shows as another list. Just touch that name and it opens up the screen where you can add items to the list.
    I hope this is helpful!

  114. I figured out how to rename a list! Collapse the list, press and hold to bring up that menu, then hit rename.

  115. Love this app and have suggested it to many of my friends. I know you like to use the KISS principle but one feature that would benefit me infinitely, would be the ability to "hide completed" tasks. I reuse lists all the time by checking and unchecking items but some list get long and force me to do a lot of scrolling to find unchecked items. Another aide if hiding isn't easy/possible would be the ability to add items to the top of the list. Moving items one step at a time to move them to the top of a long list can get tiresome. Just items on my wish list. If not possible, no worries. Love this app.

  116. I have the pro version and love it, but one little glitch has come to light, if I want to alter an item I can't get the rename menu to come up.

  117. I find I keep accidentally checking/unchecking things when I'm trying to scroll up & down. Is it possible to make the side swipe gesture less sensitive, or have the option of turning it off?
